When we liberate our bodies, mind and heart follow. This basic principle of embodiment informs all physical hatha yoga practice. Just 4 Sun Salutations in the morning or at lunch, or any time you’re stuck, can revolutionize your point of view because mobilizing the spine and joints creates physical ease. It’s a good thing that it’s so easy, too, because physical ease isn’t a luxury; it’s a prerequisite for open, generative flow of creativity and relationships. It’s easier to be patient in line or on the freeway when your neck isn’t screaming. And that’s just the beginning.
For older kids, you can play the chopsticks game. This is advisable to children aged 6 and above. You can play it by team or individual depending on how many students you have. Each student or each team must have a pair of chopstick and a bowl. Prepare different items such as marshmallows, pebbles, candy, chocolate balls, etc. and scatter them on a long table. Each student must walk her/his way to the table and pick the items one at a time using the chopstick. They must then walk back and put it on the bowl and hand the chopstick over to the next student (if it’s a team, otherwise same student must go back to the table and pick the rest of the items) to pick the next item. Whoever team finishes first, wins the game.
Environmental Purchases. Avoid buying things around; commodity goods are always expensive with retailers, go to wholesalers. Visit supermarkets that buy directly from manufacturers.
What about the things in life that money can buy? Are you driving your dream car? What about your dream house with the gorgeous kitchen? The fabulous view of the ocean off the enormous deck? Did you get that boat you wanted? Awesome isn’t it, if you love fishing too?
So you, as a river, support life. To some you are life for without you they could not exist and go on being. But how are you supported? What gives you, the river, life? You drain into the sea and vapor from that sea evaporates into the air to form rain clouds and snow clouds at your headwaters, at the beginning of your life many, many miles up stream.
Usually at Christmas, after watching It’s A Wonderful Life, we realize that just like George Bailey we all have unreached dreams, plans, passions and aspirations. It’s a haunting thought. Then as the new year 2019 wishes rolls in, we take stock of this realization and make resolutions to do those things we’ve always wanted to do.
I here give it an additional meaning. For me the circle of life means a way in which you can find yourself being happy and continuing to be happy. Happiness progressing in a cyclical fashion. But that sounds, to my ear, to be very clinical. Let me try a more dynamic representation.
Use the power of momentum. Take the all-important first step, and you’re halfway done. Take the next step, and another, then another. You will become stronger and stronger as you take more and more steps until you find yourself on fire and on a roll.
